Life Span
Most white tailed deer's life span is about 2-3 yrs. If in the wild the maximum life span is 20 years but few live past 10 years old.
Reproduction
Breeding season begins in November and is called the rut season. Doe will be in heat for 30 hrs. And the doe heat cycle last until 28- 30 days. Most fawns are born in May or the first part of June. Does have 1-3 fawns after 6 months of mating.
Development
Female deer will nurse their babies several times a day until the fawns are strong enough to join the herd. A doe will leave their newborns for many hours to search for food. If more than one fawn, the doe hides them in separate places. While waiting for their mom to come back the fawns will lie on the ground with their heads, necks and legs stretched out flat on the ground. This position makes it harder for predators to find them.
Travel
During the winter, the deer usually stay close to forests, and they prefer pine trees because they provide shelter from the weather. They are herbivores so they are mostly found in grassy areas, but they occasionally wander out in the morning. They mostly wander around mainly at dusk and dawn. They can sprint up to 48 km per hour using agility and speed to get away from their predators. And also can leap as high as 3 meters and 9 meters long in 1 jump.
